Concrete Cutters, Inc. offers a complete egress window installation package, so you do not have to coordinate between multiple contractors to get a finished product.
We also offer a line-item estimate if there are portions of the project that you want to complete yourself. We are willing to work with homeowners and builders to meet their specific project needs.
The Complete Installation Package Includes:
Machine excavation will be used to expose the concrete wall approximately 7′-6″ wide x 5′ out and approximately 7′ deep to open the area for the window well all the way down to gravel or drain tile. We strive to minimize impacts to the surrounding area. Drive mats will be used on lawns during wet conditions in order to help protect grass. The bottom of the excavation will be backfilled with ¾” clear gravel to allow for natural drainage of the window well.
In most cases, we will mount wall saws to cut the opening for the egress window, which allows for a straight cut. We will tip the cut portion and the concrete remnants will be buried on site within the excavation area, unless otherwise specified.
Window Header and Blocking
We will install a 5 ¼” x 5 ¼” Microlam engineered lumber block for the window header, and 2” x 6” treated wood for the window buck.
The typical window that we use is a 4’6″ x 4′ Alliance Windgate Series Double Sliding Low E Argon Filled Insulated Window. We pay particular attention to detail with our window installations to ensure that a proper fit is achieved. We offer the window in white and tan colors.
Rockwell window wells are finished with a stone texture and come in either gray or tan color. This aesthetic treatment creates the look of real stone, adding warmth and appeal to the view from the inside. These one piece units are constructed with a durable, maintenance free material that will withstand the test of time and exposure to the elements and will be mounted directly to the foundation wall. The units are 66-inches wide, project from the foundation wall 39 or 44-inches, and come in varying heights from 24-inches to 96-inches (in increments of 12-inches). We are an exclusive distributor of Rockwell window wells. For additional information visit: http://www.rockwellinc.com.
Well covers will also be installed to limit rain and snow from infiltrating, to help keep the well clean from debris and pests from entering the well and for safety. The covers also help save energy by providing another buffer layer against heat transfer. They are clear, which allows maximum sunlight and withstands up to 400 pounds.
Backfill and Finishing
Any exposed lower level wall within the well will be finished to best match the home’s exterior so the window looks like part of the original construction rather than an add-on that was installed separately. Special attention will be paid to help avoid window leaks from water sheeting of the house sides. The hole will be backfilled, leaving a portion of mounded dirt to account for natural settling that may occur. All other excess excavation material will be hauled away if specified by the homeowner/contractor.
